Refined Soybean Oil

Refined Soybean Oil

Soybean oil is a vegetable oil extracted from soybean seeds and is one of the most popular cooking oils in the United States. It’s made by dehulling and crushing soybeans, separating the oil, and then refining it to remove impurities that could affect its flavor, smell, and color. Soybean oil is often sold as a blend with other oils, such as canola, corn, safflower, and sunflower oils.

Here are some facts about soybean oil:

Composition

Soybean oil is 12–15% saturated fat, 22–30% monosaturated fat, and 55–58% polyunsaturated fatty acids. It’s also a source of vitamin E and omega-3s.

Uses

Soybean oil is used in many packaged foods, baked goods, snacks, dressings, and sauces, and can also be sold as a cooking oil on its own. As a drying oil, it’s also used as a base for oil paints and printing inks. Soybean oil can also be converted to biodiesel fuel, which burns cleaner than traditional petroleum-based fuels.

Health benefits

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that soybean oil may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. It may also help lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
